All of these appeal to something fundamental in all of us. Righting wrongs against us. Somehow, some way, some day; I'm going to get you back. Teach you a lesson. Give you what you've got coming.
The next time you are tempted to fall into this thinking, remember this: Jesus knew he was dying for his murderers.
While dying on the cross, Jesus knew that his death would provide a way to salvation for the very people who had unmercifully tortured and killed him.
He went through with it anyway.
All of those little offenses by my fellow man that are inflicted on me are nothing compared with what Jesus went through. And he went through it so that the people who killed him might live forever.
Instead of seeking revenge, he sought to save them.
If I follow Him, the least I can do is follow his example. So the next time someone offends me, I'm letting it go. I'm going to, in my small way, do what Jesus did.
