Get to work. Catch a glimpse in the mirrored door. It's some old guy. He's older than my dad was when he died. It surprises me so much that I almost stop in my tracks. This guy looks tired. He's certainly not 25.
What happened to me? I guess time happened to me.
Thankfully, Meredith and Lauren can't see the old guy, yet. To them, I'm still dad. I keep up with them- we skate, we bike, we dance. We watch goofy movies. We share. I asked them what they did today and they animatedly describe all the details of a girl's life.
Last night, Meredith and I were sitting out back, admiring the night sky. She turned to me simply and said, "Dad, don't die." I said, "Don't worry, I won't."
But I know it's going to happen someday. I wish I could live with them forever.
The truth is that I will.
I guess that's one of the big reasons I believe.
